BTC Awards and 2017 summary

February 28, 2018

Beccles Triathlon Club held their annual awards evening last month which celebrated the success and achievements of club members over the 2017 triathlon season. The club which now has 105 members was able to reflect on a successful year ranging from those having taken part in their first triathlons, to those who have stepped up in distance and those representing Great Britain at Age Group competitions both on a European and World level. Last year saw 9 members take on Ironman events arguably one of the toughest physical and mental challenges in the Sport. It also saw Brian Tate crowned World Champion for sprint distance triathlon for his age group in Rotterdam a huge accolade for both Brian and the club.

The club was well represented both locally and at events nationally with members taking on different challenges across the UK and abroad with a club trip out to Mallorca for Ironman 70.3, where 2 club members conquered the distance for the first time.

To celebrate the success over the past 12 months, awards were presented to individuals who had been voted by both the club and committee to have achieved something special. Brian Tate was named Club Male of the Year, with Suzy Knights (having completed her first Ironman and representing GB at Aquathlon) picking up the Club Female of the Year. Best Young Person was awarded to David Sparshott who has had success on a local level at the Beccles Triathlon, with him being strong in all three of the triathlon disciplines. The final two awards were shared which is testament to how much Beccles Triathlon Club has grown over the past 12 months. Best Newcomer was jointly awarded to Nicole Goffin who has excelled in her first season at triathlon picking up age group and podium positions in the competitions she has entered and Roly Shaw a great ambassador for age group competition with him having gained some impressive results over 2017 as well as being named Club Coach and passing on his wealth of expertise to others within training sessions. The final award for Most Improved was a three way tie between Stu Lawn who has constantly pushed himself this year even when he has felt out of his comfort zone, Mark Regan who has really stepped up the distance and has further challenges planned for 2018 and Danny Sayer who completed his first Ironman triathlon this year, stepping up his distances and training significantly.

Beccles Triathlon continues to welcome new members and looks forward to what 2018 will have in store for its members. For more information about training sessions please access the website through https://www.becclestriclub.com/ or email us at becclestriclub@hotmail.com
