Established in 2013 Beccles Tri Club is reflecting on another successful year of swim, bike, run. Affiliated with British Triathlon, England Athletics, British Cycling and Cycling Time Trials, the club now has over 120 members. With a focus on being fun, inclusive and low cost, the club plays a key role in helping local people from Beccles (and beyond) to get active, and to be part of a friendly, supportive community.
A busy year for Beccles Tri Club
2025 was a busy year of sporting adventures for BTC. The inclusive nature of the club means athletes of all abilities are supported and celebrated in equal measure. Club members have gone from just learning how to swim, to taking on their first ever triathlon and other events. Athletes who started out nervous on the bike have built up their confidence and completed local time trials and group rides. And the more experienced members of the club have been competing all over the world, taking on Ironman distance triathlons, ultra-marathons, representing the GB age group team at European and World multisport championships, and competing at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

Oliver R, who completed his first Triathlon with Beccles comments: “I joined BTC after completing the Waveney Sprint Triathlon in September. I quickly felt welcomed by coaches and club members and was inspired to sign up for another triathlon, this time in Edinburgh. The club has a great mix of sessions to support my training and I was happy to improve on my race time on the day!”

Beccles Triathlon club has strong links with Beccles Lido. Members will be returning to the open-air pool in May for swim coaching and supporting the Lido’s fundraising triathlon in June.
There’s been a constant stream of achievements to celebrate over the year. And now some club members are even taking their passion for the sport further to qualify as coaches themselves and support the existing roster of coaches and volunteers who keep the club running.
A strong sense of community
Reflecting on 2025, Club Chairperson Justin Brown said: “We’re incredibly proud of all our Beccles Tri Club members. Not just for their sporting achievements, though these are incredibly impressive! But also for the passion, support and sense of community each and every member has shown all year.”
“Our coaches and volunteers have helped numerous new people to take on new challenges and learn new skills, but it’s the friendly and welcoming environment the club has created that helps everyone to have the confidence to chase big goals and get out of their comfort zone.”
Looking ahead to 2026
With the 2025 race season in the rearview mirror, BTC is looking ahead to 2026. The winter months have brought their challenges, but that isn’t stopping the club from keeping the good times rolling.
“Our usual winter swimming venue unfortunately became unavailable this year, but thankfully we’ve been able to collaborate with a local swim club to continue offering winter swim training throughout the winter months until we return to Beccles Lido in May 2026,” Justin explained.
“The dark evenings and cold weather haven’t put our members off either, we’ve seen great turnouts at our winter run sessions and some fantastic group cycle rides at the weekends. Being part of the club really helps us all to stay motivated and keep active all year round.”
With new coaches and activators currently in training, thanks to support from the club, 2026 is set to be better than ever.
