Beccles Triathlon Club were out in force at one of the first race weekends of the season at the East Coast Triathlon (21/22 April).
The club was represented by 14 members taking part in the super sprint triathlon distance of 250m swim, 17km bike and 3km run which was based around the sea front/promenade area of Great Yarmouth, with two events over two days. Alongside those competing there were also a number of members around the course marshalling the route which gave those racing a much needed boost during the event.
On Saturday night Suzy Knights took her first race win to bring home the female trophy. In winning she also recorded the fastest female bike split of the day. Not to be outshone the men also produced some great results. Nick Esser was first home for the club taking an age group win, he was closely followed by Phill Goffin and Carl Prewer to produce a 1-2-3 in their age category with all 3 finishing in the top 10 overall. Tom Persich and Shaun Crowley also produced strong performances to take age group wins. Tom Moore and David Hirst both recorded solid results. Hanna Dean had some bad luck with picking up a puncture on the bike leg but powered through to complete the event with a special mention going to Pete Dean for completing his first triathlon.
On Sunday morning Vicki Grice made it a clean sweep for the females taking first place and recording the fastest female swim split. Again there was a strong race from Jo Fisk, winning her age group and claiming fastest female bike split. Chris Mills produced a great performance and surprised himself by picking up a well deserved age group win. Jane Hunt rounded up the results with her producing faster swim and run splits in this years event.
It was great to see so many club members racing, marshalling and supporting and the club looks forward to carrying on those great results over the rest of the race season.
