BTC shine in the Balearics!

Beccles Triathlon Club were out in force at the end of the race season to compete in 3 events spread across 3 weeks in the Balearics.

First up in Mallorca at Challenge Paguera 70.3 it was a mix of individual and relay teams who started a successful 3 weeks of racing by the club. Suzy Knights and Pete Burwood took on the full 70.3 with Danny Sayer, Nick Esser, Shaun Crowley and Terry Garrity making up the swim, bike and bike, run elements of their respective relay teams. Danny and Nick along with Terry's daughter Katie earned a podium for their efforts finishing 2nd place in the mixed relay category.

As a warm up Shaun and Terry then headed to Ibiza to take part in the European Multisport Championships where they were joined by other members of the club who were all representing Great Britain in their respective age groups over different multisport disciplines. Karle Howard started things off in the cross duathlon, in his first appearance racing for GB. A day later it was the turn of the Brian Tate, Vicki Grice and Marcus Nichols, taking part in the aquathlon. Then a few days later Shaun and Terry (his first GB appearance also) took part in the 70.3 triathlon.

The club is very honoured to announce that Brian despite battling a number of injuries this season was crowned European Champion for his age in the aquathlon, which adds to the National Title he won earlier this year.

It was then back to Mallorca for the Long Course Weekend a long distance triathlon split over 3 days, with additional distance options in all disciplines. Jonny Weavers was outstanding in going long over the 2.4 mile swim, 108 mile bike and 26.2 marathon run. Suzy, Nick, Danny and Sarah Heatley took on various distances over all 3 disciplines with Michelle Sayer (bike and run) and Cheryl Goymer (run) making up the Beccles Tri Club contingent.

In addition to the great results over the last 3 weeks, both Suzy (as an individual) and Danny and Nick (as a team with Katie) earned qualification to the Challenge Championship in Samorin, Slovakia in June 2019. Whereas Brian and Vicki through their placings in Ibiza have achieved automatic qualification to the 2019 European Championships in Targus Mures, Romania.
